A practical DXF editing workflow
- Keep the original DXF. In CadFreely, choose Open drawing from the application menu and select your local file.
- Use Zoom Extents to locate the geometry. Check drawing units and a known dimension before editing.
- Inspect layers and object properties. Use snapping and exact coordinate input for precise changes.
- Make the revision: move an opening, change supported geometry, add dimensions or update text.
- Use Save As or Download a copy and choose DXF. Keep the original file separately.
- Reopen the exported file in the application that will receive it and verify the changes.
Drawing exchange between CAD tools
DXF is useful when exchanging supported entities across different CAD applications. It does not guarantee that application-specific constraints, dynamic behavior or custom objects will transfer unchanged. Review blocks, hatches, text styles and external references in the receiving tool.

DXF for cutting and fabrication
A line drawing still needs a fabrication check. Confirm physical units, overall dimensions, closed contours and duplicate geometry. Inspect arcs and splines in the target CAM application. Keep dimensions and reference geometry on clearly identified layers.
CadFreely does not generate or validate machine-specific toolpaths through this editing workflow. The machine operator must verify the final job.
Common problems to check
- Wrong size: inspect drawing and import units before scaling anything.
- Missing objects: inspect layer visibility, frozen layers and references.
- Unexpected text: check available fonts, alignment and text height.
- Different printed scale: check both CadFreely's plot settings and the printer's fit-to-page option.
